So what exactly is The Easy Truth about Homeschool Transcripts by Lee Binz?total transcript solution review

Why should you be writing your students’ homeschool transcripts?

If you’re new to the world of homeschool transcripts, then you probably don’t have much clue as to how to write a proper and effective transcript—or perhaps why you should be writing one in the first place!

This is why I think the second chapter of the e-book, “Why Make a Homeschool Transcript”, is really crucial.

First of all, it tells you the importance of writing your students’ homeschool transcripts—throughout the duration of the homeschooling process and not just when your child is about to apply to college. Of course, the main purpose of the transcript is still for college applications. For students who will be applying for scholarships, they typically need to submit their transcripts before their senior year.

However, there are other reasons why you should religiously keep a student’s transcript right from the very beginning. First, it helps you stay on top of your curriculum since it is quite an effective planning tool. By keeping and regularly updating the transcript, you can easily see the courses you’ve already covered and the ones you still need to teach. This ensures that your students meet all graduation requirements on time.home scholar review

Aside from helping your homeschool classes remain organized, transcripts also help you provide detailed and accurate feedback to your students. Instead of just giving your child a number for a grade or telling him to improve, a transcript can be an official documentation of his/her academic performance.

What are the positive things about The Truth about Homeschool Transcripts?

  • As mentioned, Lee’s writing style makes for a very easy and enjoyable read. Unlike other academic references that are long-winded and full of highfalutin words, Lee keeps the writing simple, concise and direct-to-the-point. If you don’t have a lot of time to read an e-book but want to make sure you get all the vital information, then this is the book for you.
  • I also like the fact that Lee really aims to reveal the truth and make homeschooling easy for her readers. For example, she tells you straight out that most public schools are not very welcoming when it comes to accepting students that have been homeschooled. So she advises parents who are planning to homeschool to commit to the whole four years if possible, since transferring a homeschooled student to a public school can be a challenge.
  • Another thing that makes the e-book a recommended read is because Lee is truly an authority when it comes to the subject matter of homeschooling. She has a lot of experience and actually provides consultation and training on homeschooling professionally.

What are the negative things about the book?

Although the book is well-written and very informative, below are some areas for possible improvement:

  • Some of the information tended to be redundant. There were some parts of the book that I felt could have been condensed into one portion. One example is the fact that Lee constantly assures that most colleges accept homeschool grades, or “mommy grades”.
  • It would have helped if the book also included the particular transcript requirements for specific college institutions, such as the most popular universities that homeschooled students are likely to apply to.

Overall, what do I think?

If you’re looking for a comprehensive and straightforward guide on how to write homeschool transcripts by a professional, then this is definitely the e-book for you. Lee Binz boasts years of experience in the homeschooling field and it clearly shows in her writing. The book is organized in such a way that you really have a step-by-step guide to follow in writing your transcript. Aside from that, she offers anecdotes now and then about her personal experiences (her sons are all homeschooled by her) that can really help you and your homeschooled child.
